umm yeah just got this game and it starts with night of raven or something how do i switch to first game?

If you installed everything, i don't think you can switch. If you want to play without the expansion, uninstall the game and when you go to re-install it, on the installer window after the integrity check is finished, you'll have a button you can click on thats located on the lower left side of the installer window (i believe it's called "Options" but i'm not 100% sure), if you click on that you'll get a menu where you can choose the install Gothic II Gold with or without the Night of The Raven expansion.

Hope that helps, otherwise maybe someone who knows more will pass by soon and provide more detailed feedback :)

With the latest update you should be able to see the mod starter window instead of the instant GII startup. If not, try to install the latest update. There is a mod avalable (it`s named gothic II classic) which let`s you play the initial GII as well the NOTR expansion

What is the difference between the two? I know Gothic II Gold has Night of the Raven included but don't both versions of Gothic II and Gold start the same?

I don't know for certain because i've barely started on the game itself (waiting a while so i don't go in too worn out from Gothic) but i believe that aside from the obvious stuff the expansion adds (possibly new quests, items, areas to explore, etc) it drastically alters the difficulty and makes the game much harder then without the expansion, thats what i was told and suggested to disable it the first time i played.

GII NOTR has additional quests, items and locations to offer. The game is harder though, due the enemies are tougher and the skill system is more expensive.

Overall the new story parts are great
