I'm having some trouble with the original Gothic, which I've just downloaded. When launching the game, the initial cinematic played with no sound, however when I got to the main menu the background music and interface sounds played fine. When I launched a new game, the sound was fine during the intro cinematic, however all sound and music was absent when I got to the game proper.
After quitting and launching the game again, I found that no sound or music played at any time. I tried reinstalling, but there was still no sound or music. I'm running Windows XP.
Also, this may be nothing, but the installer I downloaded didn't have the usual GOG.com icon - it just had a generic program icon. I figure this is nothing, but you never know.
I could try re-downloading it, but bandwidth is expensive in my country so I'd rather find a normal solution that doesn't require me to re-download the entire game, especially since there's no guarantee that doing so will make it work.
Can anyone help? I've scanned the last couple of pages for a similar problem, and I found some links to a patch that has worked for some people, however the download link appears to be broken now. Any help finding a solution would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've seen a patch mentioned in a couple of posts here on the board but i'm under the impression that that patch fixes a sound probelm in Gothic with Vista. You're on XP.
My gothic_setup.exe file also doens't have an icon and the game works fine. Many installers come without the gog icon, don't worry about that.
The installers have an in built file integrity check system. If during install you didn't get any messages mentioning a problem with the file i would assume you're installer is fine(assuming you didn't skipped the integrity check).
As for the sound problem, have you tried the usuall stuff like lowering the sound hardware acceleration a bit, and updating audio drivers and DirectX files ?
