I've just purchased Gothic I and installed it on Win 7 64-bit. It seems to run OK and i'm in the process of learning the funky controls. However, it seems incredible to me that there's (apparently) no way to get back to Windows without exiting the game. Am I missing something here? Is there actually no way to "alt-tab" (or whatever) back to Windows?

This is due to gogwrap; run gothic.exe directly to bypass that (you can update the shortcuts etc. to do this).

Note that the game will crash if you task-switch during FMV videos which I'm guessing is why GOG decided to prevent that occurrence.

Awesome! Thanks a lot. I tried it and it works fine. On going back into the game, my Inventory was open and there was a lot of strange video jitter. I remapped the inventory key, though, and that seemed to fix that issue. Thanks again!
Does G2 have the same thing preventing alt+tabbing?

Yes but it can be bypassed in the same way. The same goes for other games with a gogwrap; I don't think there are any games that outright require it to run normally, but of course some may respond poorly to task-switching.

Cool, that should help me. I had been finding G2 even less able to Alt+Tab than G1 (which was odd). Thanks.

Another option is to set it up to run in borderless fullscreen windowed mode, allowing for seamless task switching.

With either method you might want to change the Tab binding to avoid the issue muun mentioned (alternately, pressing Tab again once you return focus should make it work normally again).

Wooowww... I had no idea such a new method would work on a game this old.
