I just purchased and istalled Gothic 3
When i tried to run it i got info that game need to crate cache file and that it make take a while. I clicked ok and i was left with a black screem, no progress bar no nothing. I waited 10 mins and checked game status in menager and its status was "not responding"
Should i just start again and give it more time or something is borked (no progress bar etc)?

[edit] it started working after ~25 mins... but fact that there is no progress bar or anything just black screen is a bit weird tho

GOG version for Gothic 3 includes Community Patch 1.6 (unpatched game is horrendous), which is an ancient patch, to use the right words.

To play Gothic 3 at its full potential, please download Community Patch 1.75. All the info and download link are here. You don't have to worry about anything else, this patch comes with all the goodies included.

Hope this helps.

That is not correct - the GOG version of Gothic 3 is now patched to version 1.75, as listed on the game information page.

Ah, my mistake then. It was 1.6 last time I checked. :)
I'm getting the same black screen, but I'm not seeing the box to click OK on unless I hit the little Windows key that brings me back to desktop. THen I see the box talking about creating shaders and I click OK, but then when I click back on the Gothic 3 image, it won't let me "back in" meaning I'm still on my desktop.

What the hell is this? I'm guessing I'm gonna sit here for a half hour or more and then discover that hitting the Windows key and returning to desktop somehow screwed it up, right?

EDIT: Nevermind, it worked. Only had to wait about 9 minutes LOL. Guess this new computer is faster, I dunno.

Really seems like a strange thing to go through though, with just a black screen staring at you.

Too bad with so many I-net providers now limiting downloads.
Already have the latest community patch but wondering if GOG offers a download of it since those who bought it in the past have 1.6.

As far as I know, GOG doesn't do separate patches for games - it may be necessary to download the whole kit 'n kaboodle again.
I'm getting this black screen problem with the same error too
Same. Two different pc's and black screen. Serious? Gog, are you working or not?
I left it on the black screen for probably 10-15 minutes and it eventually reached the main menu. It hasn't done the black screen wait since.

Just be patient. Computer really gave no indication it was busy.

It`s funny that only GOG version have problem, on Steam game run with no problem. I buy there again and it works. Why?
