I had a game of Gothic 2 going and was frustrated because in Win10 it won't display properly. It seemed just good enough, so I went with it, but after a while I started looking into solutions. On Reddit somebody said to open gothic2.exe and Run as admin, use compatibility mode, and run the game outside of Galaxy. I did that, and then Gothic 2 stopped running. I even uninstalled and reinstalled, but now after I click on "Play" I get the little progress bar that says "Please wait while configuring..." and then I get the error message below (pic attached). It says C: maximum texture size is lower than 32. possible reasons: wrong gfx driver setup (install other driver)...bad os state (try to reboot), or insufficient gfx hardware)

My rig is more than capable of running this game. Pics attached of my specs. Did I break the game? How can I fix this? Thank you

Edit: Other games run just fine.

Update: I uninstalled it and reinstalled to C:/Games/Gothic and ran it without Galaxy. Now it runs just like before, and I kept my saved game. But I'm back to square one; I still can't alt-tab or see damage bars on mobs I kill. It doesn't even look like it's in a proper fullscreen mode. How can I tweak it to run properly in Win 10? Even with native graphics is ok. I did run it with compatibility mode and checked run as admin, but that didn't seem to do anything.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Gerin,

I made a little guide for myself to not only get the game working, but to also give it a performance and graphics boost.
For some reason I'm not allowed to share links so I made a screenshot of the guide, attached to this post.

It involves installing some patches in the right order (you can skip the Optional bits). Installing these will make your game from DirectX 8 to DirectX 11 which will make it much more compatible with modern systems.

Hope this helps! Please report back if it does or doesn't work :)

They worked great! Thanks! I didn't download the ones labeled as optional, but all the others except the DX11 one. Maybe that one next time. :)

I want to let you know that I got the DX11 renderer installed, and the game looks terrific! Thanks again

Hi,

I just also ran into this error. I wanted to try your guide, but the provided link to the DirectX 11 patch is no longer valid. :(

But following steps from PCGamingWiki seemed to help:
1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
2. Edit gothic.ini
3. Change zVidResFullscreenBPP=16 to zVidResFullscreenBPP=32
4. Save your changes and run Gothic II again. It should now be able to select the resolution correctly.

run in compatibility mode and run as admin open file location for gothic 2 and go into systems open gothic with the gear symbol with notepad scroll down to video settings and change them to whatever you want them to be...worked for me
I changed mine to 1920 by 1080 switch the bit from 16 to 32 and it skips the loading process as well
