Hi,

Have been trying to play Gothic 2 NotR for a while now, am experiencing intermittent freezes / crashes, The frequency is random.. sometimes have seen the game crash within an hour, sometimes it happens after maybe four hours. There have been rare instances where the game did not freeze completely but was crawling at something like 2 frames per minute or so.

i dont prefer to save games between sessions, consider that as pseudo cheating. As a result, havent been able to get past the city of khorinis .. there was one time i reached level 8 over two sessions but then got hit by the Lares bug - the game is interesting but is turning out to be a mind numbing chore. would greatly appreciate the help.

And was also curious to know if this a widely experienced phenomenon.

Am sharing the following info in case it helps (mostly it doesnt)

Gothic 2 NotR GoG December 2015 download
intel core i7 4770k
geforce gtx titanx
asus mobo ddr3/pcie16.0x
16 gb ram ddr 3 - gskill
win 7 64 bit home premium sp 1
ps/2 input devices

Best regards

Edit: am playing the game in first person mode by enforcing dontswitchtothirdperson=1 (or some similar cvar) in the ini file

Besides the ini tweak, have you installed any mods? Have you tried setting that tweak back to the original setting?

no mods yet, will try again after disabling the tweak,, since the freezing is random, complicates the task a bit

my theory is that there is a script that runs in the initial part of the game that causes the problem, once have put in 10 hours and solved a few of the initial quests the game runs stable .. theres no error reporting either

btw would you recommend any similar game from the 2003'a and available on gog?

Morrowind for sure, 2002-2003 with expansions.
Thanks... did not resolve the problem though, still the game freezes randomly :)... will return after a few years or see if the next hardware refresh resolves this, repeating the first few missions has been nauseating, completely broken the experience

Morrowind is a highly marketed game, have already played it.. picked up oblivion last year followed with morrowind, those are really spooky games :)

Am playing baldurs gate now.. hows jade empire btw?
