I try to defeat the guard in the storeroom but he always kills me in one hit eve tho I have the militia light armor and I'm at level 5, am I doing something wrong or do I simply need to level up even more?

You are way too weak. This guard is definitely not that easy. Level up more or buy powerfull spell scroll and kill him with it.
