Hi,

does anyone have managed to run Gothic2 Gold on OSX via wineskin?

According to winehq the game runs without major problems. I however can't seem to get it work consistently. I always get an error regarding initialization of sound.
"C: failed to initialize sound, MSS reported: Broken waveOut driver – ’buffer done’ flag never set"
According to a faq i found, i should set sound hardware acceleration to maximum in dxdiag, however, it is already set at maximum.

After a lot of tinkering, including downgrading to wine-version 1.3.0 i managed to get the game run. But after i quit, trying to restart the game results in the same error.

I know, methods like wineskin aren't officially supported, so i just may be out of luck here, but maybe someone has already managed it. (and maybe share the empty wrapper in which i only have to install gothic2)

I haven't tried Gothic II on OS X myself, but according to the WineHQ details it needs Winetricks under Linux, so this might also apply to Wineskin. You can find the Winetricks setting under Wineskin Advanced > Tools.
Sorry if this wasn't clear. I have already tried everything, which is recommened in the winehq-details. Which includes installing directmusic and even overriding some of the dm-dlls.

The problem isn't the music, it's the sound itself.
it works, use paulthetall's wineskin instructions. I tried everything else.
I originally had difficulty getting this to work with the Paulthetall wrapper, then I went back and tried it again a couple of weeks later and it worked mostly like a charm. My general experience (on OS 10.6.8) was as follows:

1) Install the game using the Paulthetall wrapper, default options, don't need to install the Gecko API if it gives a warning message about that.

2) Go into the .app bundle (Show Package Contents), navigate to Drive C -> GOG Games -> Gothic 2 Gold -> System. Delete or rename VDfs32e.exe. After this, it ran fine, including music, movies, etc.

3) (optional) go into Gothic 2 Gold/_work/Data/Video" and delete logo1.bik and logo2.bik so you don't have to watch the developers' video splash screens every time you run the game.

4) I was unable to change the resolution in-game, I had to set it in the .ini file (Gothic 2 Gold/System/Gothic.ini). Find zVidResFullscreenX and zVidResFullscreenY near the bottom of the ini and change them to whatever resolution you want (most likely your monitor's native resolution, for me it's 1680x1050.

The only thing that's weird is that after I quit the game (which I have to do via CMD-Q; the quit menu option just hangs), it resets the resolution in the ini file back to 800x600. So I have to change those two lines in the .ini every time I run the game, which is a bit of a pain, but it only takes about 15 seconds.
Thanks h_double, that solved it for me!
