I just bought Gothic 2 last night and tried running it today on my Vista 64 bit system and it crashes when it starts loading after I select "New Game". It takes me back to my desktop where I cannot move my cursor at all. I bring up my Task Manager and still not able to move my cursor or even close the error window. Only way I am able to do anything is by faking a physical shutdown on my PC and then canceling it when I am finally able to move my cursor. I tried to copy and paste my error message, but it comes up a jumble mess when I post it. Will try to clean it up, first.
Thanks for any help!

Have you ticked the 'Run as Admin' checkbox in the shortcut ?

Interesting. I didn't bother to look since I am the only person who uses this computer and I am not able to click that checkbox. Will look into this suggestion. Thank you for the reply, Namur!
And I feel like a big idiot right now! I saw other posts saying this, but I automatically figured I was the Admin since this is my personal PC. Shortcut wouldn't let me click it, but the main icon itself had an option under the right-click menu saying to run as the admin.
Thank you again, Namur! :)

From Vista onwards, all accounts run with limited privileges by default--even administrators--meaning programs need to specifically ask for administrative rights when needed. Older programs usually work OK without elevation, but under certain circumstances you need to elevate them to get them working correctly.
In some cases you can get around the need for elevation by installing outside Program Files, but for some software you will need to elevate no matter where you installed it.

Sorry, was away for a while and forgot about this post. Thanks for the info, Arkose!
