*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
I'm currently playing Gothic 1 for the first time and my character has reached level 11 by now (chapter 3, playing as a guard of the Old Camp, about to enter the orc cemetery); I still have 41 skill points to spend and would love some advice on how to further develop my character since I haven't payed much attention to careful planning yet and I don't want to mess things up in the end.
Here's what I did with the other skill points so far:
- spend 4 on hunting skills: TEETH, CLAW, HIDE, FUR (because they were the first skills I came across and also the cheapest, and I thought they might be good for a low level character to gain some ore and buy better equipment; I didn't know they mostly applied to creatures too tough to fight for a low level character. I also learned STING and MANDIBLES for free).
- spend 10 on STRENGTH and 5 on DEXTERITY (not knowing that Dexterity was mostly for shooting bows which I hardly do except for getting monsters' attention)
- spend 10 on LOCKPICKING 1 (to impress the shadow thief in the Old Camp and because breaking lockpicks - a limited resource - was annoying)
- spend 10 on SNEAKING (because I thought if there's an extra mode and animation for it, it's going to enhance gameplay by giving me more options)
- spend 10 + 20 on ONE-HANDED SWORD mastery (now that was really worth it! :) )
My current stats are STR 35, DEX 15, MANA 5.
Now my questions:
- Should I get more STRENGTH?
- Should I also learn the handling of a TWO-HANDED SWORD, as the best weapon I have at the moment is a two-handed orc weapon? Btw, do these melee skills only apply to swords as the name suggests? What about maces, clubs, axes etc.?
- Is it worth it to learn shooting a ranged weapon?
- How much better is LOCKPICKING 2 over LOCKPICKING 1? Will the lockpicks still break occasionally, only less often?
- Should I get ACROBATICS when I get the chance? What is it good for?
- I'm also thinking about investing all skill points in MAGIC from now on, because from what I've read it's an important or at least popular choice. My question is: Would that make me a passable fighter with proficiency in magic or a mage who can't stand his ground in melee combat anymore? Will it make the game tougher for me? Or more enjoyable?
- Up to which level can I advance in the game anyway?
- And a last, unrelated question about magic: Do scrolls vanish on use? It seems like I can use my Light scroll several times, whenever I want to, as if I was able to cast a spell - but I think another scroll I tried out was gone immediately after its use.
Thanks in advance for any answer and advice! :)
