Hey: I tried to start Gothic 1 with my Windows 7 computer. Game starts and runs ok, mouse is functioning, but the keyboard is completely disabled in-game. Checking around, I saw the previous post here about allowing keyboard access through anti-virus / firewall, so I tried all that, including data execution prevention, but nothing seems to get the keyboard to work in the program.

Any suggestions that could help? Would be grateful!

This may sound funny but it has worked for me with similar past problems - unplug the keyboard then plug it back in.
Thanks for the response, lordhoff.

Ok got it. Apparently a program called OSDMain.exe, which puts visual cues on the screen for keyboard controls like volume, was interfering. Going into Show All Processes in Task Manager, disabling it, and then reenabling it, led to the keyboard functioning in Gothic 1. I guess it doesn't like stuff beyond normal keyboard.

Thanks for being diplomatic :)

I'm glad you got it running; I'd never been able to figure that out. Now I'm going to see if that might be an issue with another good old game (Dark Star One) - can't get any controls to work once the game is on a mission (keyboard, mouse, and joystick).
