So I'm getting this error when going into the mage tower (Fog Tower?) on the east edge of the map. I can enter, and I can get about halfway across the room (the other side of the ladder) or half way down the stairs, then the game freezes and then I get the "gothic 1 dderr_unsupported mode error" when I swivel the camera.

I've googled it, but what confuses me is why it's happening now (my character is now level 14). I've changed nothing, installed nothing on my PC. Hell, I played for a few hours this afternoon and only shut the game down about 3 hours earlier.

I've even been in the tower before (and got waxed by skellies when exploring the basement). I've successfully climbed the ladder and gone down into the tunnels below the tower. No problems. Now I get this error. Anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

Win7 64 bit
Intel Core i7 920
GTX 560 Ti
18 GBs RAM
Monitor is 1920x1200 resolution.

Running the GOG version (of course) with the Gothic 1 Playerkit, a couple texture mods, and high resolution font.
Well, I never did solve the issue, nor did I figure out why it started all of a sudden. I did however, consult a walkthrough and found out this area is related only to a totally optional side quest, so decided to give some more attempts and abandon that area altogether if I couldn't make any progress. Well, with a lot of perseverence, freezes, crashes, lock-ups, abd restarts of the game, I managed to get far enough to be able to drive that quest forward. Then avoided the place entirely for the rest of the game.

If I'm thinking the same place, the quest is very minor too - not really worth the effort and, again if it is where I think it is, it was cool finding the back door and takes quite a bit of exploring.

Yeah the quest chain itself doesn't net you much, but you get a lot of monster XP by doing it.

True, but not a place to visit until rather strong.
