I can't seem to get Gothic 1 to run properly. I've installed both Playerkits (1.08 and 1.28 in that order) than the G1 Classic System Pack 1.7. The game menu loads fine, but if I start a new game, it crashes with this message below. I've tried all sorts (running as an Administrator, compatibility mode, disabling antivirus) to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Nevermind, I managed to get it to work! Been searching for any fixes, I downloaded a Gothic international Steam fix, and ironically it wasn't the program itself that fixed the problem, BUT the error message. Basically it told me something about "windows data execution prevention (DEP)" being activated and it being related to causing Access Violations, so yea I googled how to fix the offending thing and now Gothic 1 works! Here's how I did it (Note: I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit)

Ok, basically what you do is you right click "My Computer", click "Properties", then on the panel on the left, select "Advanced System Settings."

There should be several tabs at the top, click on "Advanced." In this tab, the top section should say "Performance." Click the button that says "Settings."

There's 3 tabs here: go to the end one that says "Data Execution Prevention."

Near the bottom, click the "Add" button, and add the Gothic executable files to the list (the exe files in Gothic/System)

All done and sorted now! Hope this helps other people, I had a serious hard time Googling how to fix this error last night and only managed to discover it unintentionally.
Holy shit thank you so much, I tried fixing this for a while and never managed to do it, I'm so glad I'll get to play it again, was considering dual-booting WinXP just for Gothic
