Title more or less says it all. The game starts up fine and I get to the menu, but as soon as the game loads about half way after I press "New Game" it crashes to desktop. There's a massive error report with a bunch of numbers in it but it didn't really tell me anything valuable
Hardware:
AMD Phenom 9850 2.5 GHz Quad Core.
ATI Radeon HD 5750 512mb
2GB DDR2 Ram
Windows 7 Ultimate, fully updated.
Any help is really, really appreciated.
Here is what the error report says:

All those errors are saying is that the the problem is in the gothic 2 executable which seems unlikely to me. Your best route here is probably a reinstall making sure that you:
-Install using admin privileges.
-Install outside of program files
-and disable your antivirus for good measure
My guess is that a file is missing which can lead on to errors like that. Though you may want to reinstall directX 9 (installs alongside 11) and video drivers.
The first thing to try is a simple reinstall. If you skipped the verification step when running the installer, let it run its course this time. If it tells you the file is corrupted that is the source of your problem, and you will need to download a new copy; otherwise continue with the install and that will hopefully fix it.
Don't worry about updating DirectX or disabling your antivirus unless reinstalling still doesn't fix the problem.
Once you get things up and running you may experience random crashes with similar error messages from time to time while playing, but this is just due to unfixed bugs and not anything wrong with your install (the same applies to the first game).

sera: -Install using admin privileges.
-Install outside of program files

These steps won't do anything; the installer asks for elevation automatically (otherwise it wouldn't be able to install to Program Files at all), and the install location doesn't matter.
Alright. I guess I'll try reinstalling. I should have tried that before posting but I really didn't want to redownload the game due to bandwidth issues. I'll post again if it works.
Also, thanks for the really speedy responses.

You didn't keep the installer? I keep all mine for that very reason.

I have very little hard drive space. Keeping a 2gb installer just in case it messes up isn't really a good idea.
