Hello folks, I have a problem with Gothic 2 gold, I have yet to send in a tech support ticket.
On launch I get this error "failed to initialize sound MSS reported: WaveOutOpen () failed"
It happens after the long load screen that says "initializing ...virtual disk file system"
I went into the INI file and disabled sound. That gets it to load, but I don't have sound! I am not happy with that. Can anybody give me advice as to how to get the sound on and still load the game?
Also the load time to launch the game is far far too long Is that normal? Modern larger games load much faster than this.
My hard ware/ OS is :
Dell Dimension e521
windows 7 pro 64
AMD athkin 64 x2 5200+ 2.60ghz
4gb ram
Radeon X1300/X1550 Series
If you need more details please let me know!
Thanks!
COR

If you were on XP i'd say it was a sound acceleration problem and you could look into that. Unfortunalely on Win7 adjusting the level of sound acceleration is not an option.
What is your soundcard ?
Have you any kind of audio recording or audio related software running in the background by any chance ?
Also, tick the 'Run as admin' box on the game shortcut. It probably won't help but it's worth a try...

Doh. Found the problem and its not the game. The headphones that I was using died. I don't have any speakers hooked up to my PC. So apparently on program launch it looks around for what type of sound output you are using and it will not accept nothing. Strange that nothing gives a fatal error. Does that mean deaf folks have to hook up speakers to play this game?

The fix was simple, plug in working headphones or speakers.

Thanks for the try Namur! :)
