Anyone know when it was released?

How are its current sales?

I'll be finishing up Gothic III in the not so far future and would like to try Risen. At least hoping there is some hope that it'll be available here at some close by point.

It was released in the fall of 2009. A GOG version would be welcome since the original DRM was terrible, giving false DVD check errors. There were lots of complaints on the official forums and I had an awful time with it myself. It usually took several tries to start a game taking 3-4 minutes. Maybe that doesn't sound too bad but it put me in a really bad mood, sometimes enough to stop trying and play something else.

It might still be too new; however, since there is a "II" out, I suppose there is hope. Yeah, I read about the DRM problems - another reason I'm hoping it gets picked up.
Well, on one hand Risen 2 is a steamworks game and Deep Silver stated so to say it will remain Steam only forever. They seem to be not really fond of the drm free idea. Besides as far as i can tell there isn't a single game published by Deep Silver available here. On the other hand according to my knowledge Risen is allready available drm free at Amazone and Gamersgate.

I don't know... Maybe Deep Silver opposes GOG as much as i oppose Steam. Maybe they allready permited GOG to sell Risen.

I won't rent (not really buying) anything on Steam, no matter how good.
