I found a little trick when fighting orcs around the castle in gothic 2. If you run down the catapult or whatever that thing is; try to get a few Orcs to chase you. Run back to the catapult and stop once you get right on the bottom. The orks will stop chasing you and put there weapons away. Use this time to start swing. I killed 6 or 7 orcs at once time using this trick with out even being hit once.

It's mentioned in some of the G2 FAQs & works for wargs too.

Doesn't stop shaman fireballs though ;)

Also keep in mind that sometimes enemies can get stuck *under* the ram. Don't know if this means they can hit you (I move further up the ram and plink away at them with a missile weapon)

get the pirate booze that makes you run faster (speed potion works as well)
get the fire rain scroll
run around the castle, let the orcs chase you, let them come closer...and unleash the fire rain

BOOM

try to get as many orcs as possible in one go

you can kill them all in like 3 minutes

Now that's --- that's ---- that's devious (and perfectly legitimate)!

As for the catapult, they also won't climb it and you can pump arrow into arrow into them from safety. Except the elites sometimes do climb it. You'd think ol' cross bow expert up there would be firing at them but nooo! :)
