Hello everyone!
I wanted to replay the Gothic series and been kinda stuck on a problem for a while now.
When installing the GoG version of Gothic 2 with every patch to run that game properly, I'll still get directx out of memory errors and the overall input inside the game menus seems extremely slowed down or it takes seconds to adress any input at all.

When installing the Steam version, everything runs fine, but this cant be it since I prefer playing my games via GoG :(
Thanks in advance if any ideas come together!

It probably would require quite a bit of additional trouble-shooting to figure out why it's not running out-of-the-box with some additional patching (like it does for me, fortunately) in your particular case, so I'd recommend to just install Union on top of Gothic or Gothic 2 and be done with it.

You could still try and look for the culprit yourself or hope that someone with a similar or identical setup as yours (you'd need to share some info on the OS you're running or what patches/fixes you're applying on top of Gothic 2 in this case) can help you out but it probably makes more sense to save the time you'd need to invest in trouble-shooting or waiting and put these hours or days even into actually playing Gothic 2 instead.

I tried downloading and installing Union, but while it immediately found the right installation folder, it didn't recognize the version (I manually told it that it was G2-NOTR) and then it said "unsupported version" yet still downloaded and installed. While my problem (rather low frame-rate) is not the exact same issue as the OP, I hoped it might work as it's billed as an overall overhaul. I didn't notice any changes, though whether that's due to the above-mentioned error or because of something else, I can't tell.
Hey, I just wanna link over to my topic here:

AlexTerranova's dgVoodoo tip solved my frame-rate issues completely. Maybe it'll help you as well?
