Gothic does have a good deal of problems such as the clumsy fighting system, irrational default controls, and high degree of initial difficulty but it is absolutely worth the time to discover its many high points. Dedicated players will be rewarded with such RPG rarities as full voice acting of all dialogue (including the player character), a unique setting with Tomb Raider-esque exploration of locations which range from the sublime to the terrifying, and an open-ended experience with quests better than kill it, fetch it, or clear it. I personally remember it more fondly than Oblivion.
