I just found this, which is an improvement over the ironkeep patch. Just one of the features is that it makes NPCs sleep at night like they used to, so you can rob their huts at night.
Too bad it's in English, only. It only pertains to the text in the game, but it's somewhat jarring nonetheless.

I've tried unpacking the VDF to see whether I could work existing German strings in and translate additional lines, but unfortunately GothicVDFS reports an error about a wrong VDF version with this patch. Is there an alternate VDF un|packer that modders use?

The bugfixes may of course be worth playing like that, anyway. I'll try.

I packed this patch/mod using GothicVDFS 2.6.
Oh, so a version actually made for Gothic 2 is used (if the directory structure at that link can be believed). Well, I had no way of knowing that. But I won't be able to do anything with it, anyway, since I can't actually read those compiled scripts packed with that patch.

I guess, I'll just accept the English text. No point in digging into modding Gothic after all these years just for this little problem. It's not annoying enough to make the time investment worthwhile.
