Hello !

I've got a few more questions about Gothic 2 and Night of the Raven, so instead of spamming the forums I've created one thread.

1. What is better to levelup (in Night of the Raven) 1HD and 2HD weapons ?

2. Are weapons that you can forge better then those you can buy (and on higher forge levels)?

3. why should one choose a mercenary guild if the weapons/armor of the milita seems better ? what can they do better ?

Thanks.

It depends on your style of playing. In the beginning it is better to be at least a good one handed fighter, Later it depends on the guild, but as Paladin or Dragon Hunter I always choose Two-Handed weapons

You can forge awesome weapons and have great weaponry (some early weapons bring a skill bonus) at a cheap price. The downside is, that you need pretty much skillpoints and so you need to go for more XP because you also need the strentgh to hold the weapons. I like this feature, in GII without NOTR it is not as powerful

AFAIR the mercs can forge better weapons and you can get money for some quests of other Royal Guards, which you naturally can`t as Paladin. And you get some different quests of course ;) Paladins can also learn some magical spells, which Mercs can`t.

Mercs depend entirely on scrolls for any spells (3). (1): two handers are stronger later but won't be of much use early. Personally, I don't use them since one-handed weapons are faster and one doesn't need to block most of the time. The extra blows and less damage make up for the more powerful two-hander blows (IMO) and the experience can then be used elsewhere.

When playing the Night of the Raven, isn't putting points into 1hd weapons are a waste if you want to be a master at 2hd weapons ? (from what I understand it's changed in the expansion).

Also I got so little skill points about 15 now (after learning to skin animals), and I also want to be good at pick-pocketing.

So what should I "learn" 1st ? dex, str 1hd, 2hd ?
In G2 without NOTR I always pushed DEX to 50, due pickpocketing succes and the 50DEX/100Damage+10 1H weapons near the 2 trolls near the hungry hunter. Unfoirtunately this weapon needs way too much DEX in NOTR :(

You always have to learn the other class too if you are to good in the other one. After being a good 1H fighter you also need to learn 2H simultary, that hasn`t changed AFAIR.

If you can wait try not to use Instant Skill boosts like potions, certain books (for mana, I I`m not waiting for the 1H and 2H books though) and so on. They become more valuable when your skillpoints get more expensive.

In the beginning 1H is always a good idea, due Mages also need to defend themselves from time to time. I`ve never considered that points wasted due you need a lot of strength for the 2H weapons and this goes of cost of the other skills like skinning and so on. But of course you can also play it a an instant 2H Warrior and still can solve the game.

LP costs go up in the same way but you no longer get points in the other skill. Boosting the skill you aren't using with books and other methods will delay the LP cost increase of the skill you want by that many points, so you want to take advantage of these as soon as possible.

So you mean that if I'll increase 1HD the 2HD skill won't also increase ?

lordhoff: Correct.
Just like I thought at first...the expansion really messes things up ;)
Guess I'll have to level 2HD then, but the question is at what point of the game...I mean I want to be a mercenary + thief.
But still far from being excepted to either of those guilds.
Got 20Dex and all 10's ... (except bonuses).
Dunno what should I waste my points at this time.

Strength seems to be key for mercs; dexterity for thieving, regular bows, and some one-handed weapons. But, mercs need LOTS of money - don't neglect money making skills (hunting and forging do well). Alchemy, well, you can get a fair amount of money selling mushrooms but they have a more important affect (as do apples).

How much Dex do I need to be able to pick-pocket almost anyone in the game ?

50 should do it for most.
