I just started the game and on the first level (all I've played so far) the ground texture is non-existent I just see the blue background underneath me, everything else shows up fine. I also installed the graphical revision mod, could this be the problem?

Its very possible, try reinstalling the game without the mod and see if you have the same problem or not.
Edit: Make sure you completely remove all traces of the installed mod.
