Thought it might be a corrupted driver and have download a replacement dll but for some reason the dll I have has been password locked.

Is this a Microsoft of nVidia thing?

I was wondering if the dll might not even be corrupted and it might just be a problem with compatibility with this old game?

In which case you should re-download the driver from nVidia's site. You could even try older drivers, in case there really is an incompatibility issue that have popped up.

However it could be many things.. faulty graphics card, bad memory, insufficient PSU (maybe not as it presumably worked). Some more info on your system (and OS) could be handy.

Or try nVidia forums (or google "nv4_disp.dll BSOD" :P), probably better luck there. I went ahead and found this: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=4432 could be a solution in the link in the first post there if you are lucky. Not a new thread though.
Thanks, the file is ok. It's been manually replaced as well. It's just the way the new nvidia drivers and kabuto work with it.
Win XP SP3, Athlon XP 2800+, NForce2 chipset, Geforce 6600GT with 285.65 drivers led to immediate BSOD on nv4_disp.dll just past the loading screen with the pictures of the Mecc/Delphi/Kabuto.

Rolled video driver back to 185.85 and problem disappeared, game plays smooth.

Yeah, I forget which set of drivers that I dropped back to but the older drivers released around the time my card was corrected the issue. I'm glad that nVidia keeps backlogs.
