Sadly that Dino beatdown has no demo. It's a shame, as it could be a fun multiplayer romp. Tribes 2 + Turok, with some visual inspiration from Halo? Sure, but no demo is a sign that the game sucks, and the creator knows it. That, plus the rumors I've heard about it...

For Giants, I'm on my first ever playthrough and I'm on the last mission as the dudes with the jet pack. I don't want to give it up, it is pretty awesome. Though the best jetpack game is definitely Tribes 2 Classic ;)

Rhineland: I remember another one: Outwars

Maybe no one know this game anymore, but it came from Microsoft and was released in 1998.
Exactly what I was thinking. Excellent game indeed.

inc09nito: But really, if you want some jetpack action, then you have to try Dark Void. I don't have an idea why it had such a bad reviews and received low notes. yes, the game isn't that awesome, but jetpack-gameplay (which is more like flying later in the game) and intriguing background make it worth playing in my opinion.
The problem with Dark Void is, that it really has nothing to offer except the jet pack part. And guess what: The controls are shit! How can one release a game, which fully relies on moving and flying around, and then screw up the controls!? Honestly, I can understand why this game got bad reviews... :)

The controls are perfectly fine when you play on xbox gamepad! And it can offer an interesting background plus solid shooting experience. It only feels that the story should have been longer and a bit more complex and detailed. But this is a really good game. But yes, play it on the gamepad.

I don't have a gamepad. But that is not my point: In my opinion, if a game is released on a certain platform (here: PC), then it should work with the controls most people use on it, which means mouse and keyboard. The developers have to optimize their game in this direction (if they want to do a good job) or they simply don't (and do a bad job). Here they didn't and that is what I criticize them for. Playing without a gamepad is a pain in the ass.

Regarding the story: It is nothing special (contentwise) and its presentation is very poor (speech, cutscenes). But that's only my personal opinion... However the "solid shooting experience" doesn't correspond to what PC players are used to, if you compare Dark Void to other shooters that significantly influenced the genre in the past.

Well, we have a different opinion. That's good :)
I have a gamepad because i like action / arcade games. If i wanted to play racing sims, i would buy myself a driving wheel and i wouldn't demand control optimization for keyboard.
Besides , not much to add. I like the setting of the game even if it feels a bit underdeveloped. I enjoyed the shooting/ movement mechanics too. It's much different than both "corridor" and sandbox shooters. And regarding "shooters that significantly influenced the genre", i don't know why should i care about them. Dark Void is fun, that's enough for me. Comparing it with Half-Life or Gears of War is not my job.

It was mine some years ago, as a side job, when I had time to enjoy a happy student's life. :) Maybe that's where it comes from.
