Hey, I want to play Giants online, I recall the cd-version had some built-in Gamespy-support? I cant find it in the Gog-version. Anyone got any ideas?
Online would be cool, but I am not sure how either since I would think if they used dedicated servers they would be long gone. GameSpy would be nice, but I no longer have it installed so do not know if they support the game any longer either.
gamespy arcade still works. people online periodically, but some are assholes -- right after i joined one, the admin switched me teams, and as i respawned, i found he had set up tons of turrets to kill me. lame.
we should organize an online session sometime. if you don't have gamespy, you can still connect via IP address.
Oh yeah ! If I took Giants it's because of the multiplayer part but I don't find any servers (and Bots were in project but... nothing).
So if you want to play sometimes I'll really enjoy to be part of it. :)
I would love to try out online! People say it is really fun.
Hmm, so the GOG version will have no problems interacting with the CD version.
Have two physical copies, gunna try to get some folks at a lan party to buy it and give it a go instead of UT3 for a change...
Yes indeed this was a very interesting game to play multiplayer. Remember surviving the tornado while being a mecc, should still be able to pull it off. Edit: irc there's still a group of people that still play, don't recall their website but it should be possible to googlefind it.

There's... no online..?
This is what I got it for.
Great.
Don't worry, the online is still there, just there aren't so many servers anymore. And you need a gamespy account
you could allways get hamachi its what me and my friends use to play lan over the internet much less of a pain than gamespy arcade
Gamespy is your best option for finding multiplayer games, though I've heard that GameRanger (http://www.gameranger.com/) also works - but as I've never used it before I can't comment on how well it compares to GSA.
If you're not terribly interested in using Gamespy or GameRanger, we have a dedicated server running over at GiantsWD.org that is online 24/7 - just enter giantswd.no-ip.org into the IP box and it should find it. Most of the rotations are Mecc vs Mecc, with intermittent Mecc vs Kabuto rounds tossed in for good measure.

You and your friends should try using GameRanger. It's even easier than Hamachi, since it is designed for Giants.
I am currently hosting a game on giants, and probably will be for quite some time. Anyone who wants to play come join up
On gameranger that is

I up this topic just to say that a useful tool to find servers and players has been released on GiantWD, it is called ChateX and it is only 450kb to download and the program will allow you to find a game.
It only works with Giants of course. ;)
To clarify the above post somewhat - Chatex only works with the recently released 1.5 (curently beta) patch. The 1.5 beta also includes the ability to find and join games ingame, without need for external utilities.

Does 1.5 still use DirectPlay? If so, people are still going to have port-forwarding/firewall problems by only using an in-game browser (or any external app that isn't GameRanger, for that matter).
