irish_potatoes: For the past few weeks I have been playing without incident on win7 x64. Now UAC pops up when I run the game, asking if I want to let the program make changes.
I have attached a picture of the game's shortcut. What causes the shield? How do i get rid of it?

A few things to check, where do you have it installed (if it's under C:\Program Files\... than you might want to try uninstalling it and installing it in a non protected folder (I use C:\Users\Public\Games or G:\GOG\ ). A lot of older games require the ability to change files in the root directory of the game, this is probably the largest problem with running older games on Vista, 7 or 8 and the simplest way to fix this is to change where you install the game to.
Did you change any of the properties (like XP Compatibility mode)
I think I read about someone else who suddenly had the UAC shield appear on their shortcuts and the consensus was that it happened after a Windows 7 update was applied, so some security patch or fix.
To get rid of the shield you need to turn off UAC, but of course that is at your own risk. Running GOG games as administrator isn't really an issue anyway and is recommended in some cases. I install GOG games outside of Program Files, too, to avoid other potential issues with DEP, but I think the recent v2 installers default to this now anyway.
