The game crashed after the first couple minutes of playtime. It was so bad I ended up re-installing it. Now a new game freezes right when the first auto-save occurs.

Seems like the original crash borked things up for good. Any ideas on what might fix it?

Looks like it was a settings issue. Somehow I'd gotten the FOV distances set to minimum. Moving that up from there cured the problem. The game probably wasn't really freezing
