I was reading other forums when I came across THIS....
"Thorne, Soulscreech, Smokin' Joe and Azrael. All four of them are not included in the final version of Ghost Master. Not in a functional way, at least. You can view their pictures and models, but they don't actually appear in the game."
and
"They simply weren't included in the final release, along with a lot of other (very nice!) content like a museum, a pirate ship and a mansion. Sure, you can still view (and use) some of the sad remnants, but there is no way to actually access the lost levels and ghosts."
I mean.... I always knew that the game itself didnt feel 100% finished, still loved it though...
But to think that THREE WHOLE MISSIONS (maybe more if they doubled up) where lost! Even though the files for them still exist... its just sad,
It makes me wonder if there is ANY way that we could mod them back into activation (not me personally, I cant, im asking to see if anyone could without source)
or possibly if GOG could get in contact with whoever owns the IP now Empire is bankrupt and see if they could put them all together in a special patch. If they did, it would sell better on GOG, im sure, and since all the files and such are already there.. how hard could it be to finish them?
To prove it, one guy even managed to activate one in the ghoul room by replacing the dog.

I did what he did just to check, and turns out it DOES work. The animations and scripts all seem to be there.... the main problem is you cant actually use IT, it needs a way to unlock...
On the ghost list, "azrael ghost in the military machine enemy"
"soulscreech field enemy"
So there must of been going to be a rival ghost master, or something similar, it does say "enemy"

It looks like it was cut either VERY EARILY ON or VERY LATE ON.
Look at the files HR_Map_1.tga HR_Map_2.tga and HR_Map_3.tga
Hehe, buck fetter.

EDIT: Also, I take it that this was sort of like the infamous hot coffee mod.

I was an old regular on the official fan forums years ago. Spoilers, sufficed to say, below.

Azrael was to be attached to the rather large cannon you find placed in the second to last level - I forget what his actual raison d'etre was, unfortunately, but he would have been something much akin to the Dragoon in nature in that he would rush around the map (which is rather large - the only one large enough to field the Dragoon himself also with any real efficacy, in fact) and work to counteract your efforts somehow - the Dragoon does so in Sleepy Hollow by scaring away every mortal in that level which is not your objective. As the army base level requires you to scare everyone away, it can only be assumed Azrael's efforts would have done something else. It was theorised he would be in some way be linked with the rather dangerous exorcist on that level, seemingly named as he was after the angel of death.

Thorne, however... we mourned the loss of Thorne. Thorne was supposed to be...different. A recurring enemy. A haunter driven mad and controlled by the government - likely some connection to the forever unexplained Dr. Bruner. She was captured and tortured by some shady government group and made to do their bidding.

Smokin' Joe sounds suspiciously like the baseball haunter that was left out. He was to appear in Sleepy Hollow, or at least in the area in which Sleepy Hollow was based (you frequently returned to the same locale in later acts with different objectives, new areas in the same old places opened etc.). In a spoof on Field of Dreams (most levels were parodies of movies) you were supposed to coerce the farmers into building a baseball field for him, the same field in which you find Scarecrow.

I don't believe he was called Soulscreech, but there was a very, very cool pirate Haunter and - believe it or not - a level that was supposed to be underwater. If you check through the files you will find the sprites and images for mortals in full wetsuits and scuba gear, I kid you not.

It has always been presumed that these levels were cut very, very late indeed - the hints are all over the place. The fact that there is no legitimate way to get Windwalker but the puzzle for him remains in the police level. Poltergeist's hatred of "The Colonel" - not just a witty reference to KFC, there was actually supposed to be a showdown with a chef turned fast food tycoon. The Painter? One of his paintings resides in the house that is the stage for the Calamatyville Horror - we were evidently supposed to return there on a third, perhaps even fourth occasion, and you can still see the hints. Rose and Old Man Carter were to get their own level - indeed, it's been posited that most if not every haunter which is just "reassigned to you" between Acts "because of your success" would have had a side mission of their own, in each cut level, which would have required you to free them of their fetters.

The game remains one of my all time favourites (you can surely tell) but I have been forever dismayed that they refused to release the level editor. The whole, uncut game is literally RIGHT there.
Damn man, I was never aware of the full extent of the cuts. With Ghost Master being one of my favourite games it is painful to hear just how much was actually cut so close to release. Damn, that just- ouch. Thanks for going into more detail even so long after this board was posted
I know this is kinda late, but after I bought the game when it was released on GOG, I admittedly forgot about it. Only to discover I somehow wound up with it on Steam, too. Probably through a Bundle of some sort (Humble, Gala, Royale, etc).

Anyways, throughout the game I couldn't help feeling that stuff was left out. I'm glad you guys made this thread - sad as the circumstances may be - because it at least put my mind at ease that I wasn't just imagining things. I, too, enjoyed this game quite a bit. Even if it did get a tad.. carried away with some of the cheap/fake difficulty.

It's truly a shame when you come across a game that really intrigues or entertains you like this, with such an interesting or even fairly original concept, only to discover it was a victim of missing/unfinished content that was shipped as a finished game.
I remember reading about this stuff at ghostmaster.net forums before. And here's the thread where I read about it!

http://ghostmaster.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=650

While searching online for more information on cut content, I also came across a site which has concept art for loads of games, including Ghost Master. There are pictures of both cut characters and locations:

2 broken links. the forum link should be possible to update but, the other one is unlikely.
There's actually a mod that puts (at least some) of those ghosts back in the game!
It replaces the All Ghosts Mod, if anyone knows of that.

Mod can be found by googling 'Ghost Master Rejected Ghosts Mod'.

I haven't fully tested it yet (I only played a few missions into the first act when I last tried it on my brother's account) but in the past I've used the All Ghosts Mod and loved it to bits. This mod, from what I understand, takes everything that was in the AGM and adds the unreleased ghosts and some other stuff as well.

Pro tip: You need to start a new game for this mod to work.
based on what i have found out, it replaces 3 of the ghosts already in the game, unless they got around that. i do hope that people manage to add the removed levels somehow however. i have now tested the rejected ghosts mod and it is not perfect. the ghosts work but, they are missing text and one is missing a picture as well. they also do not appear in the ghoul room, meaning that i can not train them without an editor.

The same person who did the rejected ghosts mod is also working on putting at least some of the levels that were planned in the game. They've got a mortal editor already functional, and possibly some other editors as well

Edit: Are you sure you loaded from the GhostMasterLauncher and not the GOG shortcut?

of course. if i had not, i would not have gotten them at all and just gotten the default ghosts. i can still run it with the default ghosts which is what i want to do until i complete the game. after that i will go back to the mod and try to complete the game on that. i do hope however that they are added to some levels later on.
