I am trying to determine if this is a problem with a specific game (X4:Foundations) or the GOG 2.0 launcher. I believe it might be the launcher since the only way I can take screenshots in that game is through the GOG overlay.

When pressing F12 to take a screenshot, I am only getting a .tmp file that is exactly 10.0MB in size. At first I thought nothing was taken, so I pressed it again and the game ended up crashing and I had 3 new .tmp files in the X4 screenshot folder. (/documents/gog galaxy/screenshots/x4foundations)

Once before, I had this issue and I was able to take off the .tmp after the .png and the screenshot was still there in proper format but, these new ones seem to be corrupted when I try to view them. It is as if the conversion of the file is failing somewhere.

I am now convinced this is the GOG overlay screenshot function causing a crash when I try to use it in X4:Foundations. Shortly after pressing F12, my system will lock for a split second and then exit the program without any kind of a crashdump and every time a new 10.0MB .tmp file is created in \Documents\GOG Galaxy\Screenshots\X4 Foundations
I noticed, by looking around, that this screenshot issue is a long running one, with no response, so far. I too have this issue, with several games, i had solved them before, by renaming the files to .png or .jpg, but can't anymore, since i changed to win10, the images wont change. So, like the original post i as the Gog gods to please fix the screenshot issue with Galaxy.
There is still no solution to this? Has development on the GOG launcher stopped?

If you haven't already, you need to open a new support ticket. And be sure to reply to the automated message you receive to keep the ticket open. In my time browsing the forums, I haven't seen GOG staff handle support here.

I suggest two things:
1. Check permissions for the parent Screenshots folder and all other folders inside it. On Windows, you do this by right-clicking, choosing Properties, then the Security tab. Check that nothing is set to Deny for any of the listed groups and users. Modifying permissions was suggested on the forum as a workaround for not being able to remap or disable F12 as the screenshot key.

2. Run chkdsk to check that the file system doesn't contain errors.
Run CrystalDiskInfo to check that the drive doesn't report hardware errors.

As for GOG Galaxy development, it clearly hasn't stopped since version 2.0.3.7 Beta was released today.

I'm getting the exact same behavior. Did anyone open a bug on this I can add my info to?
Same problem here. Trying to take a screenshot in X4, wound up with a short freeze then a CTD.
Actually, yes, it was reported by me, back in December on the 2nd.

As for it still being in development, the update happened a few hours after posting the question.

I have been able to track that screenshots stopped working around the 16th of October, 2020. I used to take a lot of screenshots before this started to happen. Since they, rather usefully, name themselves by the date, I can tell when they started to just be unconverted png's and are just data files now with a .tmp extension.

As for the ticket, I can see it was assigned to someone named cdr_alenko with no updates since the 8th of December.
Chiming in to say I too am suddenly having this issue, even though I was able to take screenshots in my last playthrough in Januari.
Still have this issue, and to top it off, my game (No Man's Sky) will guarantee crash either immediately or within 30 seconds of hitting F12.
