So after subscribing for the BETA since day one and waiting until the 24th of July for approval, it was finally my turn to try out this baby. I’ve been playing around with GOG Galaxy 2.0 for over a week now, so I figured I shared my thoughts on this launcher, both the positives and negatives as well as give some suggestions in the process. Now it’s very possible that some of these will have been brought to GOG’s attention before and if so, all I have to say is “add it to the pile then”.

So let’s start with the positives:

1- Great start, I mean ya, I used it for less than 2 weeks and it may have been different at first, but so far, it’s pretty damn good in general.

2- I’m in love with those large “box arts” for all of the games. For someone, who less than a year ago, was 95% physical gamer with a bunch of different consoles, it feels nice to see these big pictures who are not only better than the ones you get with Steam but unlike Steam, can be sorted by tags in with those big pictures.

3- And speaking of sorting, Galaxy 1.0 and the website itself had a weird glitch where when you sorted by tags, the games were not in alphabetical order, happy that this is fixed

4- And speaking of sorting by alphabetical order, how great is it that you can rename any games with numbers in front of them so that you may sort them the way YOU want. Nice to see all of the Ys games in proper order.

5- The old GOG Galaxy was half depended on an online connection in order to make usage of the right section of the launcher. If you were offline, you only had the shitty left sidebar to work with, lame!!!

6- And speaking of the left sidebar, love the simplicity of it, keep it that way!

OK, now for the negative/suggestion part of the review:

1- Why is it still so long to load this thing on an i7 CPU and an SSD?

2- Why won’t Galaxy load properly when using Windows remote desktop? While playing remotely using Windows RDC is not really the way to go, it's still useful for downloading new games, updating your games, sorting your games or just showing off your collection. The only workaround is another solution like TeamViewer or Chrome Remote Desktop.

3- And speaking of updating, while I mentioned hating the previous left sidebar of Galaxy 1.0, at least it had the courtesy of letting us know when a game had an update. Not everyone wants auto-updates activated in Galaxy and if there’s a way to see it besides clicking one game at the time, I’d like to know-how.

4- While I praised the large box-like pictures on Galaxy 2.0, that was mostly for GOG games. On the flip side, Steam games and I’m assuming games from other launchers mostly suck. The majority of the games I have for Steam have at best, a badly cropped image, a PS4/PS3/PSVita box art, a zoomed-in picture and at worst, no picture/missing picture icon.

5- Speaking of other launchers, no itch.io launcher integration?

6- Also, we need to be able to add games that are not from launchers, something that Steam has allowed for years!

That's about it for now, I may update in the future.

I hate it.
I got it forced on me despite being listed as beta.
No ability to customize font size, color scheme, the old sidebar layout was much better.
Extra clutter in the form of integration with products and services I do not care about.
Too much emphasis on social crap, protip GoG, you sell videogames, you are not facebook.

All pending updates to installed games can be seen in the Downloads item from the sidebar. With auto updates disabled it simply lists them for any further action.
