Finally got my invite only to find out Linux is (still) not supported. As much as I'd like GOG leading the front on Linux support, Valve is doing a great job with proton and having things just work.

I've been searching the forms and before someone fires off "Linux is only 1%" know that Linux adoption is only growing and will continue to grow, because someone finally made it easier for the average person to play games on Linux (Valve).

Is there a hardware and OS poll or a way to report system stats to GOG? If not they really should have an open poll so we can see user system statistics (like on steam).

I do like that GOG has a wish list on the forum and that Linux support is the top requested feature for the galaxy client.
Since the Linux games aren't installed via Galaxy, GoG wouldn't really have any way of knowing when a Linux game was installed or played, but they could trivially see when someone downloaded the Linux version of a game. So, they're bound to at least have the download stats. Of course, it is a bit of a chicken and the problem in that if most folks trying to game on Linux are buying from Steam rather than GoG, then no matter what stats GoG has about sales, installations, etc., they would look like Linux was less popular and thus less profitable.

I think that what it really comes down to at this point is that given how much manpower GoG has, they don't feel that it's currently worth their time to focus on Galaxy for Linux. I don't think that they've ever said that they've given up on it, but it's clear that GoG has consistently had other stuff that they've wanted to get done that has had higher priority than adding Linux support to Galaxy. Also, IIRC, there were reports earlier this year (or maybe it was in the latter portion of last year) that GoG had been forced to lay some folks off, and they did have to suspend their fair price package program, because they were losing too much money on it. So, they probably aren't doing well enough to spend the money necessary to get the manpower they'd need to add Linux support to Galaxy. But hopefully, that situation improves.

Well but that wish is 5 years old already. Really dissapointing. It is the most voted Galaxy wish, yet no progress...

I am not a GOG user for very long and bought all my games here until now because I share their vision of DRM-Free games but now I feel fooled. I see no more reason to prioritise GOG over steam. I won't leave it but I consider other platforms like Steam or itchio stronger now.

Which makes no sense at all, but feel free to do so
