I suppose you're running Windows 7 or Windows 8, which both have compatibility issues with the latest versions of GALAXY right now.

I got an AppCrash report which was similar to yours after the application stopped working on my PC. Here's some part of it from the Windows Error Reporting:

Sig[0].Name=Application Name
Sig[0].Value=GalaxyClient.exe
Sig[1].Name=Application Version
Sig[1].Value=2.0.40.1
Sig[2].Name=Application Timestamp
Sig[2].Value=60f12ed0
Sig[3].Name=Fault Module Name
Sig[3].Value=StackHash_a7aa
Sig[4].Name=Fault Module Version
Sig[4].Value=0.0.0.0
Sig[5].Name=Fault Module Timestamp
Sig[5].Value=00000000
Sig[6].Name=Exception Code
Sig[6].Value=c0000005
Sig[7].Name=Exception Offset
Sig[7].Value=00742217

People have been asking such questions these days. Here's one reply from a stuff of GOG Team:

Unfortunately it seems they are not going to do anything about it.

If you still want to use GALAXY, just download this version from the link provided by this post:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general_beta_gog_galaxy_2.0/is_there_an_offline_installer_for_galaxy_20/post18
Then apply this method before launching the client to stop it from updating itself automatically:

I can confirm after doing so the application works fine for me on my Windows7 OS.
