Since the upgrade to Galaxy 2.0 was forced on each device, I was able to test it more thoroughly and found several features missing from the old version of Galaxy. The impression I got is that in order to target as many users as possible, the experience with Galaxy has been leveled at the bottom, and the most loyal GOG users, who originally had more tools to manage their games library and in general had more ways to interact with the GOG site, have lost more from this upgrade.

I'd like to give a constructive criticism, because as of today GOG remains the best store for anyone who seriously cares about video games, their preservation and the freedom to manage what you buy as you like. But I'm sorry to see that Galaxy doesn't seem to value at all the GOG store, its forum (I know, like everyone else I hope it will be renewed sooner or later), or the GOG profiles page, which was advertised as a first step towards the possibility to share content, but it's not even possible to view it anymore through Galaxy 2.0.
All of this seems a consequence of the fact that now Galaxy has to manage every game on earth, and therefore no longer seems to rely on the data in the GOG store, with serious loss of functionality for its most loyal users. There's still time to improve things, though, so I'd like to try and list all the critical things I've found.

1) The games are without the various tags of the GOG store, such as Single-Player, Multi-Player, Co-op, Achievements, Leaderboards, Controller Support, Cloud Saves, Overlay, In Development, Languages. It's therefore impossible to filter them unless you create custom tags for each of these categories. Note that on the browser library all these options are still available. It's also impossible to order them by Purchase Date or Publication Date. Developer and publisher are functions coming soon.

2) There is no longer a direct link to the GOG forum, or to the sub-forums of the various games, making it even more problematic to interact with the GOG community.

3) Unlike Galaxy 1.0, the main page of a game takes data from an online database, so the description is very bland, with videos and screenshots sometimes blatantly wrong. If a game is for sale on GOG, it should take the data from the GOG store, more accurate and useful.

4) There are no more news related to a game like in the old Galaxy 1.0.

5) From Galaxy 2.0 you can't access your GOG profile or friends profile. Instead there is a generic tab of friends activities with which you can't interact. Since this is a virtually identical function, even if slightly worse, to the GOG profiles, I wonder what are the plans for the future of this feature.

6) It's impossible to compare your own achievements with those of your friends for a single game.

7) Honestly I'm not a fan of the new method of showing unlocked achievements: now the section called "My Activity" of a game page ironically shows the goals and achievements unlocked by all friends, resulting in an endless list of identical unlocked achievements. For games on GOG without achievements, seeing that someone has unlocked them on Steam is sincerely a joke.

8) It wasn't on Galaxy 1.0, but one thing I consider absolutely necessary is a number that indicates how many achievements a game possesses.

As you can see from the posts on the forums, the influx of people using Galaxy 2.0 just to see their games unified on a single platform are many, but this inevitably results in a gigantic amount of bugs with applications that don't connect as they should, achievements and playtime that aren't synchronized etc...
The question I ask myself is if it was worth trying to attract this users who may never buy on GOG, while those who already used to buy on this store now have an inferior product.
I fully agree with everything that was said by the author. GOG owes a lot in terms of functionality with the user profile. This type of function is almost a vital organ on any other gaming platform, be it on PC, consoles or mobile devices. As a loyal user of the platform, I encourage GOG to make new features available for profiles and achievements in the future.

+1, I don't understand the oversight in not integrating GOG user profiles in the launcher. It really doesn't make sense to me.
Good list.

Also missing:
-Light mode and high contrast option (at least one is necessary for basic access to the platform for many people). I like the lower-contrast dark option, but it's not a practical solution for everyone. And it's terrible to be missing options which are such basic expected features.
-A proper list view with games listed on the side of the screen next to the game page, for easy navigation. This can't even be simulated adequately with a workaround and the one option that does exist requires inordinate time investement to achieve.

Galaxy 1.2 lacked a dark mode, which is a nice option to have, but it had a functional interface that anyone is capable of using, which 2.0 is lacking in many cases. There was also a practical list view with your game list on the left and the game information on the right, which is no longer an option. This is a common standard viewing mode for software (not even just game) launchers, and even Steam, as much as they're screwing up lately, has managed to only make their current implementation about 20% worse (while turning their software into a health hazard along the way) and not to remove this option entirely. They have removed detail view, which is an option Galaxy 2.0 has that's quite nice as an option.

Given that detail view, while a popular feature, is much less used than a standard sidebar list view, this doesn't track well.
If "Steam did something stupid" means "GOG should do the same kind of thing but worse", then, well...
Ubisoft support have previously threatened legal action agaisnt a customer for telling other customers how to reach support. Yes, really.
Given the current battle for market dominance between CDPR and Ubisoft, instead of just leaving a support ticket untouched for 3 weeks like they have been doing, shouldn't they be actively initiating lawsuits against customers for daring to reach out to support?

I agree, they are both very useful features that I hope they will add soon.
Personally I also prefer the sidebar with the list of games as with Galaxy 1.0, but I'm not sure they can reinsert it now that they have decided to move the various options to the left of the launcher.

There is no good reason to force us to have much less useful content there when we don't want it. There is no good reason to refuse to provide an industry standard game library view that every other platform including other multi-platform launchers provides. There is no good reason NOT to allow the current sidebar to be moved into a bar along the top of the screen where it's out of the way of where the game list belongs in a proper sidebar list view.

If they can't bring this basic expected standard view back, then they have no business calling the new client release-ready. But then, if they can't adequately maintain user access to their own game libraries on the platform, they also can't call it release ready, and they're still failing at that in some cases. So really it's in a very much "why is this beta being forced on users?" state right now.
Great post! Agree with all points
