Since the upgrade to Galaxy 2.0 was forced on each device, I was able to test it more thoroughly and found several features missing from the old version of Galaxy. The impression I got is that in order to target as many users as possible, the experience with Galaxy has been leveled at the bottom, and the most loyal GOG users, who originally had more tools to manage their games library and in general had more ways to interact with the GOG site, have lost more from this upgrade.
I'd like to give a constructive criticism, because as of today GOG remains the best store for anyone who seriously cares about video games, their preservation and the freedom to manage what you buy as you like. But I'm sorry to see that Galaxy doesn't seem to value at all the GOG store, its forum (I know, like everyone else I hope it will be renewed sooner or later), or the GOG profiles page, which was advertised as a first step towards the possibility to share content, but it's not even possible to view it anymore through Galaxy 2.0.
All of this seems a consequence of the fact that now Galaxy has to manage every game on earth, and therefore no longer seems to rely on the data in the GOG store, with serious loss of functionality for its most loyal users. There's still time to improve things, though, so I'd like to try and list all the critical things I've found.
1) The games are without the various tags of the GOG store, such as Single-Player, Multi-Player, Co-op, Achievements, Leaderboards, Controller Support, Cloud Saves, Overlay, In Development, Languages. It's therefore impossible to filter them unless you create custom tags for each of these categories. Note that on the browser library all these options are still available. It's also impossible to order them by Purchase Date or Publication Date. Developer and publisher are functions coming soon.
2) There is no longer a direct link to the GOG forum, or to the sub-forums of the various games, making it even more problematic to interact with the GOG community.
3) Unlike Galaxy 1.0, the main page of a game takes data from an online database, so the description is very bland, with videos and screenshots sometimes blatantly wrong. If a game is for sale on GOG, it should take the data from the GOG store, more accurate and useful.
4) There are no more news related to a game like in the old Galaxy 1.0.
5) From Galaxy 2.0 you can't access your GOG profile or friends profile. Instead there is a generic tab of friends activities with which you can't interact. Since this is a virtually identical function, even if slightly worse, to the GOG profiles, I wonder what are the plans for the future of this feature.
6) It's impossible to compare your own achievements with those of your friends for a single game.
7) Honestly I'm not a fan of the new method of showing unlocked achievements: now the section called "My Activity" of a game page ironically shows the goals and achievements unlocked by all friends, resulting in an endless list of identical unlocked achievements. For games on GOG without achievements, seeing that someone has unlocked them on Steam is sincerely a joke.
8) It wasn't on Galaxy 1.0, but one thing I consider absolutely necessary is a number that indicates how many achievements a game possesses.
As you can see from the posts on the forums, the influx of people using Galaxy 2.0 just to see their games unified on a single platform are many, but this inevitably results in a gigantic amount of bugs with applications that don't connect as they should, achievements and playtime that aren't synchronized etc...
The question I ask myself is if it was worth trying to attract this users who may never buy on GOG, while those who already used to buy on this store now have an inferior product.
