Greetings!
TL;DR i think GOG galaxy disabled my steam client on purpose... that or i was very unlucky and somehow steam client was set to "disabled" in services within an hour of installing GOG galaxy, why? how? no idea.
I bought resident evil bundle like 3 hours ago, i didn't have galaxy installed at all so i just clicked on the first resident evil game and GOG page downloaded "GOG_Galaxy_Resident_Evil" exe its about 449kb
The exe installed galaxy into C: drive, program files etc but i didn't want GOG in C: drive so i uninstalled Galaxy then went to program files and %appdata% and deleted those GOG folders (they were empty btw)
Next thing i did was download the GOG galaxy exe to choose the installation path cuz i have a drive exclusively for gaming.
When i launched the gog galaxy exe (purple O icon, about 961kb) i got a warning from windows security smart screen a blue pop up saying that windows protected my pc from unknown app and prevented it from starting.
I obviously downloaded the exe from official GOG site, so INB4 yeah i double checked the url the website it was GOG no doubt, i didn't visit a clone, fake site with malware.
So i finally installed GOG galaxy where i wanted, restarted my pc and it was time for dinner so i came back one hour later and when i wanted to launch STEAM i got a warning.. saying this:
STEAM SERVICE ERROR
"the steam service on your machine requires some maintenance"
This service helps steam install or update games, enables anticheat in some titles and assist with other system level tasks, reinstalling the steam services requires administrator privileges
then two options... INSTALL SERVICE or CANCEL
This never happened before, it's the first time i get such warning from steam in YEARS.
This couldn't be coincidence i mean, like one hour after installing GOG galaxy my steam stopped working, in task manager many steam processes were up like "steam overlay" and "steam client webhelper" and even the steam exe but it wasn't launching anything it wasn't working at all.
So... i went to services... turns out Steam client was DISABLED
i set startup to "manual" and just like that, steam was working again with no issues.
Does anyone knows why this happened? i mean doesn't feel like coincidence, somehow gog did something or windows went crazy and/or steam itself, maybe steam was updating in the background and failed i don't know but this is very weird.
Already did windows defender scan etc no threads no weird processes or anything unusual so far, same with malwarebytes everything is clean, i scanned GOG installation folder, all clean, nothing bad around, stil this bothers me so much, why steam client was disabled?
One thing i can do is replicate the error, uninstalling Galaxy, then installing again through Resident evil galaxy exe, uninstall again, download gog galaxy exe from website again, install etc and see if Steam is disabled again, ill let u know what happens thx in advance.
