Hi so im from europe and I got cyberpunk recently on a nice sale in a local shop, it was a physical copy with a gog cd key inside.

Anyway the game works just fine, but i want to buy one more copy for a friend in the US but am uncertain whether he will be able to use it or not.

I know that gog is all about drm free gaming, but in the store they told me that the game is "for the eu market" and that "it can be played worldwide as long as it was activated on an *eu account*"

As far as i know gog has no regions, and doesn't even ask which country youre from when making an account but id like to hear from someone else who tried it maybe before buying myself.

Also if theres any way to "test" a key without using it that would also be great to know

tldr: are gog/cyberpunk cd keys ( from physical copies) region locked?

A new account. Says Is from Europe, but the account location says the US. Says has Cyberpunk, but account shows 0 games. The game is regularly 50% off (right now it's even on sale in Humble store, with GOG activation), but they found this great deal in a brick and mortar store...

Your location does matter in certain contexts. For example, certain games are region-locked and people from Russia and Belarus aren't allowed to buy anything here. So yes, it's possible that Cyberpunk 2077 keys are region-specific.

You can try opening the redeem code page in an incognito/private browsing window. It will tell you what the game is and you can't add it to an account without logging in. However, I don't know if any region restrictions would be noted at that stage. If you want to know for sure, you'll have to open a support ticket.

In case you weren't being honest about having bought a physical copy, you should know games claimed via codes from grey markets do get removed from accounts.

I may have been cringe, my bad and I apologize.

"Who in their right mind would make this stuff up?" you ask. Well, welcome to the internet.

When I see a persistent user who avoids contacting the Support, whose story completely doesn't match what we can all see, I will point it out. It may not help the OP, but it may alert other users.
