Note that I know what I am asking is near enough a total revamp that many may consider unnecessary, this is just how I think the left sidebar could be improved.

I like to make folders of collections of films on Plex, and when they added a similar system to steam I was kinda hyped but felt let down by the fact you can't add posters for collections, like adding a franchise logo to a collection. GOG has made it even less stylish by putting collections in a bar to the left. But one thing you can do with that bar on the left that I do like is you can pin a game on its own there. That's cool, I like that, but maybe rather than the banner next to it, you could have the launch game button? Then it becomes a quick launch bar for your favourite games you play all the time.

Home - Shelves kinda like steam uses, add a shelf with your recently played games, recently purchased games, favourite games or collections. You could move the summary section to the top of the page in a drop-down menu or have it as an option as a shelf.

Owned Games - The same as it is now, use it to set filters and create collections that you can then, if you like, put on shelves in the home screen.

Collections - This would look the same as Owned Games but use posters for genres or franchises. Click on a poster and open a collection like you would now from the sidebar

Pinned games - as described before, if you really like a game and play it a lot, add it to this section the same way you do now and it will always be there, add the little play/install button too and it will be perfect. You can even keep the option to pin a collection here too.

I think this adds a lot more customizability to the way you keep your games organized, I know some people don't actually like the shelves system on steam but you can swap the Owned Games section between grid and list view already, so they could have the same in a shelves system too.

Edit: aha, good I can edit a post here. I might make some images in Affinity Designer to show what these changes might look like. Seeing it might help show why it would be better.
