Trying to connect my Bethesda.net account and it has an authenticator attached. However, after hitting 'log in', the window soon closes after moving to the 'enter your authenticator number' page, giving me no chance to do so and no way to properly connect the account.

Short of removing the authenticator, is there anything I can do to fix that?
This question / problem has been solved by FlavioVimage
The Bethesda plugin has been broken for about a year. There's a fix on GH since October 21 but it hasn't made it to the actual plugin yet. Also both FriendsOfGalaxy (the team that pushes updates to the Galaxy integrations) and Touwastar (the original maintainer of this integration) have been away for months.

So for the time being you'll have to manually download and install the fixed build:
1. Download the current build from GitHub (Code > Download ZIP).
2. Exit Galaxy if it's currently running.
3. Open the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\GOG.com\Galaxy\plugins\installed and delete the bethesda folder.
4. Open the zip file from step 1.
5. Extract the betty folder to the installed folder in step 3.
6. Launch Galaxy and connect to Bethesda again.

Though this may not be necessary in a few days since Bnet games are moving to Steam.
there is no actual fix yet... work arounds are fine upto a point
If you can't get the workaround that FlavioV suggested to work, I would just be patient. Starting next month (which is to say, a day), Bethesda is opening things up so people can migrate their Bethesda.net library to Steam. They're retiring the BethNet launcher and are letting everyone transfer their Bethesda library to Steam. Bethesda.net is still going to be used by Bethesda for various things (mods, Creation Club, social aspects on some games) but your Bethesda games library will be merged into your Steam library. As such, after that happens, the Bethesda integration will no longer be necessary.

I'm no fan of Steam but consolidating my games library from a crap launcher into a larger service with a semi-functional client is the lesser evil to me.
