This may sound cynical, which indeed it is. But to be honest, to me it looks like a stereotypically American producer has watched Shaun of the Dead (A really good British Zom-Rom-Com from about 4 years ago) and gone "I like the idea, but why haven’t the Brits used all the special effects, where's the big explosions, where's the stereotypical hero protagonist?... I can do better than that!" which I see as utterly disappointing. Once again a good idea has been put through the same "if it’s gonna sell big it needs..." motions as so many films from around the globe, and what’s left is entirely unremarkable.
The idea of subtlety and having a new take on an genre seems completely lost. Just like the office all over again....
Personally, I'd recommend watching Shaun of the Dead if you haven’t seen it and draw your own conclusions from the two.
