Hmm, gave me some pause. I like debating inane things so please allow me to reply, hoping I don't come off as a wise-ass :-D In my understanding slapstick relates to funny accidents whereas violence entails a conscious act of doing another (or yourself) harm. I know the second can be funny in some rare instances, primarily where there's a sense of "justice" and the entity hurt deserved it, but I wanted to avoid it in this topic in case someone would go too far. It's a personal line :-)

At least you paused. I always picture The Three Stooges when ever I see the term slapstick, and wow did they get hurt a lot in that show :D.
Maybe my definition of slapstick is off, but I still picture someone holding a ladder, turning, and hitting another person with the ladder. @_@

I saw Cory McAbee's insane space western at Husets Biograf, Copenhagen. It is a black and white musical with loads of americana and insanity. I just love McAbees work ... it is as if David Lynch decided to do comedies.
