I'm sorry, I know this is the third post on DoxBox in the last month or two, but using the search function here, typing in DoxBox and OldFatGuy, did not result in finding the old ones so...

I've watched some videos on adjusting things in DosBox, particularly regarding sound, and I'm having some sound issues with Lords Of the Realm, and well, please see the attached screenshot.

How the hell is anyone supposed to make changes in a file like that?

Is it me doing something wrong again?? Jeebus, it would take an hour of trying to read that sideways and finding where the changes go, and whatnot. In all the videos, this file was like most other configuration files, each item was on a separate line.

Man this is getting frustrating. Is this how all of the DosBox configuration files are going to be???

You are welcome :)

Also notepad is really bad for editing this sort of stuff, it merges lines for some reason. Try wordpad instead.

Try going to "Community -> Topics I've participated in -> Show More". Expand the list by clicking on "show more" several times, until the threads you are looking for appear.

The search function of the GOG forum is a complex puzzle game that nobody has been able to solve yet. It's usually not even worth trying. Doing a google search with a "-site:gog.com" parameter will almost always lead to better results.

Regarding your question, Notepad is a really crude editor and it's probably as useful as GOG's search function ... every decent text editor should be able to deal with the three main "end of line" formats that exist, but Notepad can't. Try getting a better editor. Personally I'm using Notepad++ (no relation to Notepad apart from the name), which can be very powerful, but isn't completely hassle-free. PSPad is easier to use, but perhaps a bit overwhelming in terms of features. I'd recommend a look at Notepad2, which is basically "Notepad done right". Simple editor, no advanced features, but the basic ones (like the one that is needed to read files like the one you're having problems with) are working well.
Wordpad will display the file correctly, but I'll add another vote Notepad++.
Use Programmer's Notepad. That file was probably written with Linux or Mac linebreaks. Even Wordpad will deal with nonstandard linebreaks correctly most of the time.

If you're going to mess around with *anything* DOS-related, you're going to have to up your technical proficiency, or at least, curb your frustration until you can answer questions yourself and you can acquire that proficiency. If you think this stuff is difficult, try getting an old PC and setting this stuff up on a native OS. Dosbox starts looking like a sun-shiny day frolicking through a field of daisies in comparison.
