I know nothing about this game, but a google image search for the title clearly shows a screenshot of a man brandishing a knife at a great white shark.

Sold.
If you like White Gold you'll definitely want to check out its sister title, Precursors. It's essentially White Gold in space, complete with space combat, trading and travel in addition to the surface mechanics.
Does White Gold have the same level of community involvement as The Precursors?
Because that's actually kind of playable with the latest patches and fixes by fans (although it might get terrible later on).
I read somewhere that White Gold was even more unfinished than The Precursors.
Does anyone else have problems with sound effects in this game? After a while of play, I lose the sounds of walking and gunfire...music plays fine and all other sounds too (menu screens and such), but walking, swimming and gunfire are missing their sounds..

Odd :)
You need to go http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12402 and download and replace the english voice files with the russian files. They are about 1.8GB compared to the 350mb that comes with the english version of the game. You will then hear russian dialog but translation will remain in written english. It seems the only way to keep the voice from disappearing every time a dialog or action starts.

I googled and found the pic. It is pretty cool lol.
Is there anyone kind enough to upload the English dialogue files to Gamefront? Megaupload keeps flipping out on me.
Clocked in about 2 hours into the game. Thoughts so far: even to call it a diamond in the rough is overstretching the truth. This game feels like it never really went through any QA tests. I had to download badmofo's Russian audio rips to ensure that sounds stopped dropping out, but even so, every now and then there is sound lag. Vehicle physics are just slightly better than Far Cry 2's. Some quests have glitches. And the translation...wow.

But you know how there are games that are polished to a shine, and still remain unfun?

Well this game is the exact opposite of the above, because while the game has so many faults, somewhere during the development process, they didn't forget to make the game fun. Which is a shame because this would have had one hell of a reception if only Deep Shadows took a few more months to rectify the problems. Finding loot is always a lot of fun; there are sufficient perks (skills) to bait the player; the shooting mechanics are solid; huge number of quests; upgradable weapons; ability to catch fish; giant f-ing spiders. The core mechanics of the game are just so tight, and the setting feels so expansive.

And if that's not enough, here's the one sole reason why anyone should support the developers:

I just finished this game - w/ Wesp Patch 1.6 and GG-Provided Russian Sound Files fix.

It was pretty good and a diamond in the rough, for the most part.

Oddly enough, the final cut-scene was stuttering and causing lag here and there. Didn't have any other problems, throughout the game on the technical side - no problems w/ other cut-scenes or any sound issues.

Ran into some nasty game-breaking bugs....
...shouldn't have pulled lever BEFORE Gods Reincarnation quest and I missed a key on the CIA Captured On The Boat Mission]...
...but still wasn't enough to stop me from playing.

I began working on Precursors last night. :)
Already digging it.
