Andy_Panthro: The only guides I can recall buying were for the Ultima games.
One was for Ultima IV-VI, can't remember which games were covered by the other one.
This was before the vastness of the internets was open to me though, but those books were useful and thicker than a bible (they had a novelization of the games as part of the guide).

That was one that was by warren spector, had a sort of blueish purple cover and was half in world story and half solid info? That guide rocked

I did buy the NWN 2 Bradygames Strategy Guide when I came across it for cheap. It was okay, the walkthrough part was a little meh, but okay. At least I finally figured out how to properly beat that puzzle sidequest in the mansion in Blacklake.
But no, normally I never buy guides to anything. I prefer figuring stuff out on my own and where I may fail, Google will prevail.

I got Bradygames' strategy guides to Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne when a friend bought a box with both the game and the expansion as he didn't want the books but the pack was cheaper than buying the discs separately. Does that count?
The infinite wisdom of the 'net helps me whenever I need it during my digital adventures though.

I bought the Fallout 3 GOTY strategy guide, since it had all the guides for the expansion packs too, and I never bought the original one. The thing is, it weighs about as much as my laptop, and is LOADED with tons of info. Not as much as Vault WIki, but it is handy when I don't want to keep alt-tabbing or quitting the game just to look up the location of bobblehead or a schematic.

The second (Ultima VII and UW1) was by Warren Spector's wife, Caroline. Not sure if she wrote the first one, I think I found it on Amazon and it has the author as Mark Nelson.
They cost about £15-20 quid second hand now though, which is probably more than I originally paid...

The Fallout 3 SG is a beautiful collectible for the true fan, IMHO.
