I tried Gothic 3 years ago, after absolutely LOVING 1 and 2, but ugh, just didn't like it. At all. Didn't like how it turned into a mouse based click fest and didn't like the glitches and just didn't like the gameplay.

But TBH I can't remember what exactly I played and now I'm confused, because there is a Gothic 3 and a Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods.

Is the Forsaken Gods an add on, a stand alone add on, or is it somehow a "different" Gothic 3???

I just don't get it (I own both here on gog, but obviously haven't installed and tried them yet).

G3 has the same developer as G1/2, G3FG has the other developer - maybe that was the reason for you?

Ahh, okay, thank you. That's what I was wondering. Guess gog can't combine them as they do other games with expansions because of the different developers??? I dunno, but at least now I understand, thank you.

It seems to be a standalone game made with the same engine, sold as expansion. I think you don't need to buy Gothic 3 to be able to play it.

I was wondering myself why they don't sell them together... having different developers might indeed be an explanation.
Maybe it's because it was REALLY bad recived by both critics, players in general and -most of all- old time fans of the Gothic series. With the community patch and a few mods, Gothic 3 is a good game (though surely not in league with chapter 1 and 2), but forsaken gods... ugh. *Shivers* Or this! ;)

Your answer is still correct then though because a stand alone expansion is still an expansion. I _think_ that The Guild 2's expansions are stand-alone, as an example, but they're still expansions.

I was just wondering if there was some sort of "competition" as to which game was the "true" G3 or if G3FG was indeed some sort of official expansion, stand-alone or not.
