I liked XP...the Pro version anyway.
Home versions are too "lite" for me : not enough controls to do anything other that play solitaire all day >.<
I've still got that install disc so I'm covered if I want to go back to my Soundblaster
XP was released around 2002? 7-8 years is good going for any piece of software, not just OS's :P
I think XP was released in 01. Either way its plenty old enough for GOG to start selling it...

I'd buy it....for $5.99.

Pro versions are always my favorite versions as well. Sure, I may not NEED everything the Pro/Business versions offer but I WANT it, gawddamnit!!

JudasIscariot: Even if it didn't come with the soundtrack?
As long as remote desktop is a pro-only feature, I'm going to keep getting pro

I'd just torrent the extra bits :D
(Can't reply to your post Alias...weird forum voodoo going on AGAIN!)
I was just editing (and fucking up the quotes as per usual), maybe its related to that

So it's YOU!!! I knew it!! I now have a scapegoat for all those "there is a problem with your post's formating" errors!!!!

Lone3wolf: copy, move, alter properties, anything else, it killed the explorer process completely. Reset windows (without rebooting, funnily enough) and kinda mini-reloaded the system to start again.

I have this problem quite often on both a home system and a work system (both 64-bit). I figure it's probably something I installed (seeing as none of my coworkers are having the problem). In my case maybe TortoiseSVN or something else that hooks into the explorer.exe process, but I haven't taken the time to fully troubleshoot the issue.
Good luck!

lowyhong: DOS was awesome. Like what Judas said, you can't break it. Hell, its an OS in which you can just shut down right away without having to wait 2 minutes. It's a shame that with all the shinys and bells n whistles that the new OSes have, they're becoming increasingly easier to have corrupted files here and there.

That's a bit like arguing that because it's difficult to break a brick, it must be better than a house - in which a lot of things can go wrong.

lukaszthegreat: that is why it is important to create restore points regularly.

I've removed system restore entirely. Have done since XP. If something does go drastically wrong then I reinstall Windows. If I'm reinstalling Windows every 6 months or so anyway catering for such possibilities seems pointless to me.

What can I say? I see something beautiful, a red mist descends and the next thing I know its in pieces. There's a reason I don't get invited to judge Miss Universe...

Well I installed that the other day and have had no problems since (Win7 pro x64)

That depends on whether both methods of breaking are the same or not.
lol. I should apply for a QA job in some company like Microsoft : If it goes a month without breaking when I'm using it, it should be good enough for Joe Q in the great wide yonder.
I'm cheap, good at breaking things (and fixing - usually), and don't bite. Much. Honest :P
