A few questions.
1: In laymens terms what the frick is it?
2: Why has my computer installed it without my permission?
3: Who the hell do MS think they are releasing programs that just install on your system?

My comp is set that I have to OK each and every update. This new POS installs like a bloody virus but scans check out fine.

Powershell is what the command line should have been to begin with.

Man even when Microsoft is actually including important programs in their updates, they still get s*** on. Your most likely using Vista correct? Because in Windows 7, Powershell is installed by default.

Yeah i use vista but it appeared today and i havent installed any updates for a week (always a sunday job) so how'd they sneak it through?

Are you sure it wasn't installed a while ago? Powershell has been out for several years now. Check your Windows update history to see when it was installed.

Don't complain and start using it.

Funny I dont recall being on the pc at that time.

Microsoft pushes out updates = they get bashed.

Microsoft doesn't push updates = they get bashed again.

What the fuck is wrong with people these days... -_-

Dont get me wrong if its a useful update and MS dont sneak it onto my system without my permission im fine with it. Its when that doesnt happen I get grumpy.

Microsoft silently pushing an update into my computer without me even knowing about it, without an option to say no, is ugly. It doesn't happen often, but I have had windows broken by an update microsoft forced onto my system before (even though I have automatic updates turned off). Also, there have been times when I am listening to music (so not physically at the computer) and a microsoft update has FORCED the computer to restart. This kind of stuff is terrible.

But in powershell's case, nothing to really worry about :)

This was done with your permission because the "recommended updates" setting is enabled (this is the default if you chose "recommended settings" when first asked how updates should be delivered). This setting delivers Recommended updates in the same way as Important updates, and if you have important updates set to "install updates automatically" both Important and Recommended updates will be installed without any further input from you.

The Recommended category can include new programs such as your own example of PowerShell as well as other things like newer .NET Framework versions.

If you do not want Recommended updates to be installed automatically simply uncheck that box. They will still appear in the available updates list, allowing you to select them manually should you wish to.
