I have a prediction that the standard PC will see a resurgence. And it will be caused by tablets and phones. Those portable devices are ergonomic disasters, and I can't imagine trying to use something like that for any type of long-term productivity. Once the repetitive-strain and back-and-neck injury tallies start coming in, there will be a re-think on trying to extend that type of device to the production (and education) environment. And since many people still gain their familiarity with technology from their lawsuit-averse jobs and school, they'll be learning on the classic PC as we know it.
Now, I can see the convertible all-in-one - both large and small - making gains, since those will work decently in both modes. The downside to those is upgradability, but most office and education units don't get upgrades anyway; they simply get replaced.
Just a guess. As usual, I could be completely wrong.
