Hey everyone.
I'm new to this forum and I've got some questions I need answering if that's ok =)

I have Creatures 2 : The Albian Years and as a kid I adored that game, I was able to install and play it on Vista but since getting Windows 7 x64 I haven't been able to play it. I've tried using backwards compatability but it hasn't worked. =(
I just wanted to ask if there's any way I can play it on my current system. Please! I adore this game. =)

Can you be more specific about the problem you're having?
Firstly, we have game-specific forums that may be able to offer you better informed advice on what you need to do to get the game running. Secondly, the game claims to be capable of running on Win 7 64 so theoretically it shouldn't be the OS that's the problem. Perhaps it's something else that was installed before but not since upgrading.

The most obvious candidate is DX9. While you now have DX11 it may be lacking a particular file you need to get this game running on your system. So you can download DX9 from MS and install that (you'll still have DX11 but now with any missing files).
Ok sorry :/

I've installed the game and restarted it like it asks. Then when I click on it, it says that certain files are missing and to use REGEDIT to correct it.

I've just clicked to play it now, and it's sort of progressed a little bit. The window for the game opens but then this error message appears and then the game doesn't respond and has to close.

Do I have to change my desktop settings to 16bit?

You could try that, yeah. If that doesn't work, my suggestion would be installing older versions of Directx like Navagon said, if you haven't already done so.

Ok, It's in 16bit but that error message is still poping up.

Do I have to install Direct x9 into a specific place? How can two run at once?

No, you shouldn't have to specify a particular place. Also don't worry about having both installed, they don't overwrite each other. They don't all run at once, different games use different versions.

DX9 installers are to be found on most game discs. If you explore one for a copy of DX9c and install it, it could install files necessary to get the game running. For instance I just found a directx9 folder on World in Conflict that way.

It won't replace or run concurrently with DX11 it will merely add missing files to DX11.
installation is failing.. It won't let me install Directx 9. It keeps coming up with this error message. Do you have a specific link I can download from?

Note that when you download and run it further files will be downloaded.
It says a newer version of directx is dected so no further action is necessary and no installion will continue. :/

Well I don't get that from versions that are supplied with games. So I recommend you try that. Just make sure it's DX9c you're installing and not any of the previous versions. So make sure the game doesn't pre-date 2004, to be on the safe side.
Ive tried re-installing it and now it says it cant read an S16 file. =(
Am I the only one with these problems?
Ok, I'm able to view the S16 files now. But Its still telling me to restart my laptop to try and solve some problems..

Once you've restarted try this:

Open the directory you installed the game to. Open user.cfg in notepad. Change "Full Screen" from 0 to 1.
