mrtophat101: I have received some very interesting answers and explanations for those answers. Very fun to organize and see people search and guess! :D
Did I have to send the explanation for my answer? I can do that if you want (asking first to not flood your inbox :D).

The results are in!

Thank you all so much for playing. I had a lot of entries and many of you found the correct answer.

I was looking for Yuri Gagarin! The first human being in space!

I made a numbered list of all the people who found the correct answer. Random.org was used to pick a number and thus a winner.

The winner : Ghildrean. He/She will be receiving SimCity 2000 and Alpha Centauri. The gift codes will be PM'd soon.

For those who are curious. Here's the complete explanation.

Question : What country lost over 23 million of its population during WW 2?

Russia (Soviet Union) lost over 23 million of its population. Turns out our good friend Yuri Gagarin was in fact from the Soviet Union.

Tip : 1 hour and 48 minutes

Yuri was in space for 1 hour and 48 minutes.

Tip : Fruit flies did what he/she did.

Fruit flies were the first animals in outer space. This was back in 1947. Yuri went to space in 1961.

Question : In Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, Gandalf tells Aragorn to look for him on the fifth day. Where does Aragorn have to look?

Gandalf tells Aragorn to look to the east. The project that succeeded on putting Yuri in space was called 'The Vostok programme'. Vostok is Russian for East.

Thank you all for playing and thank you all for the feedback! I'll be doing another quiz in the future!
