Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying the Acer Aspire One 722 11.6" netbook 2gb ram with a n AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics card, Windows 7 Premium 64 edition, all for £299 from Amazon; will this machine suffice to play my GoG collection listed below.

Your help is most appreciated. My 3 year old son has somehow acquired my desktop machine for viewing dinosaurs on youtube and I can't get the little devil off it so I need to find a portable solution. I don't tend to play any new games on the PC. All new games are played via the xbox.

While I don't have the exact netbook, I've been playing GOG games and other indie games on a lower-end netbook for the past year.

The only major issues I encountered are:

1. Max supported resolution - Mine supports a maximum desktop resolution of 1024x600. This is usually more than sufficient for most GOG games though.

2. Screen size - Netbook screens can feel really tiny if you're used to gaming on 17" LCDs with a desktop. For example, Commandos and Nox play perfectly OK on my netbook but could benefit from extra screen estate for the UI buttons
Thanks for the reply, apparently the resolution is 1366x768 on the netbook I'm looking at. My desktop is attached to a 32" tv so it's going to be a huge difference for me; it will be like the good old days.

I'm a bit indecisive, I'm now wondering if I could get a better laptop for the same price (£299). Is £299 a bit cheap for my needs? Films, music, browsing and GoG games (that I have already listed) I'm hoping not as I don't think I can justify any increase to the wife without some serious grovelling and some false promises.
It depends on your priorities I guess.

For me, I just needed a cheap and ultra-portable machine for my job in the US so I ended up with my netbook. It chugs on HD videos on YouTube, doesn't play some of the newer indie games that need a resolution above 1024x600 or hardware TnL but that were some of the compromises I had to make. My netbook has a crappy Intel integrated graphics card so they probably don't apply to Aspire.

As a desktop replacement, a netbook may not be the best choice IMHO.
In terms of hardware, you won't encounter any problems. In terms of drivers however, I can't make any guarantees that things will work perfectly. That said, you're looking at an AMD GPU and not some sodding Intel chip, so that certainly helps matters.

The only one I think might give you some grief is Dark Reign, which could appear discoloured. Potentially. Not saying it certainly will, mind. But it doesn't seem to like something about Win7.
I think you'll be fine overall. Like others have said, hardware wise, you'll be OK.
