Titanium: Most of the early ones are freeware now anyways.

tinyE: Yes but you have to be a DosBox XP wiz to get them running and looking halfway good. :P

Fortunately there are some nice installers for folks who have the cds.
And here there are, however you don't have to got the CDs. The are downloaded by the installers. All images were published by EA themselfs. Therefore there is no legal mumble tumble...

C&C 1 Tiberian Dawn installer with everything
The missing video files for this

C&C Red Alert 1 installer with everything (needs a bit of fiddeling with the settings for individual PC's, but nothing special)

C&C Tiberian Sun installer with everything

tinyE: Yes and for skirmish players that really is nice but I like to play the original campaign and for that I go to:
http://funkyfr3sh.cncnet.org/

And no it isn't illegal because you need the original game to make it work. :D It's kind of like the Blade Runner installer that's been mentioned in here.
Sorry didn't see that, so it's a double mention :D

Titanium: This is a bit of a longshot, but could you check to make sure the first C&C is patched to v.1.07? There is a nasty bug in the GDI campaign that makes it unwinable without it. For some reason this is an issue only in newer versions.

EDIT: I checked, it's actually 1.02 and it could very well be limited only to TFD pack. This complicates things.
You seem to know more about the series than I do, I'm not a huge RTS guy. All I know is every game loads up and plays fine in my experience, and all expansion content is supposed to be included. If you need to know more an RTS guy would be the one to ask.

RTS makes me anxious.

StingingVelvet: Not sure because I haven't used that version. How easily do the games run with it? The Origin collection literally boots every game up quick and painlessly, at least in Win7. The freeware versions of the first two games were a huge pain in the ass comparatively.

I have this problem aswell. It's a little frustrating to say the least.
No, nine games and eight expansions, which is not the same thing.
EA seems to be releasing the classic C an C games on it's own..though there have been a lot of complaints that althought the original C and C and Red Alert work fine, (probably using a DOS emulator of some sort) little work was done to make the later ones compatible with a modern computer.
Microsoft also seems to have a plan for releasing modern versions of it's classic strategy game with Age Of Empires 2 HD on Steam and the upcoming Age of Mythlogy Expanded. They are pricey compared to GOG but.still, at least they are making the classics playable on a modern rig.
Ha, no. Those games are still on store shelves (both Origin-only complete AND "The First Decade") and still make EA money.

I'm pretty sure EA doesn't make any money off The First Decade anymore. That collection was released in 2006, it's most definitely out of print and any copies still in circulation are left-overs from when it was still being produced.
Is that 'PC Download code' an Origin activation or some kind of Amazon download thing?
*edit* OMG is this a physical retail box that just has an Origin code in it? That's... insane!

During sales it's about $5. So if there is no hurry, you can simply wait...
Doesn't seem to support Windows 7. :(
I'll try firing up my First Decade copies, see if those work. I don't need anything coming after Red Alert II and Renegade anyway :-p
Can you get these games (some supposedly freeware) digitally without any linkages to Origin?

Actually, these appear to be recent printings, they're using the single size DVD cases instead of the double size one they used back in 2006.

Then indeed. May be a heavily regionally limited thing, though. And particularly surprising since then it's probably missing a few crucial updates to work properly out of the box on Windows 7 (ones they added in the Ultimate Collection or whatever the new one is called). May still be left-overs from an earlier reprint from before they released the new collection, though.
